AFC Ajax was founded on March 18, 1900. The club plays its home games in the Johan Cruijff Arena. This stadium seats 54 033 spectators. Ajax is the most successful club in the Netherlands and is nicknamed the Sons of God.
The club won the European Cup I three times and the Champions League one time. Two times the World Cup was conquered and also the European Cup II, the UEFA Cup and three UEFA Super Cups can be found in the trophy cabinet. The club became 36x national champion and won the cup twenty times.
The 2023/2024 season was a very disappointing one for the Amsterdammers. The season started under coach Maurice Steijn, but he was fired soon after Ajax was in last place. John van 't Schip took over quite soon after. The results improved, but were still not desirable. In the cup, Ajax was even eliminated by the amateurs of Hercules!
At the end of the season, the Amsterdammers finished in fifth place and thus qualified for the preliminary rounds of the Europa League. This season, Francesco Farioli is the head coach.
The team's star players are Jordan Henderson, Wout Weghorst and Steven Berghuis.
