Manchester United finished third in the group stage of the new Europa League format. In the round of 16, the English met Spanish Real Sociedad. After a draw in the first leg, United won convincingly at home with 4-1. Three times the Manchester club won the European Cup I/Champions League (1968, 1999 and 2008). In 1991 the European Cup II was won and in 2017 the Europa League.
